Firefighter killed, 8 others injured after responding to NYC fireplace: sources

A metropolis firefighter was killed and eight different Bravest had been injured in a ferocious blaze at a Brooklyn house Sunday afternoon, sources told The Post.

The mortally injured firefighter — the 31-year-old son of a retired smoke-eater — grew to become separated from his comrades and should have suffered cardiac arrest inside 10826 Avenue N, the place he was discovered, sources stated. Other firefighters jumped out a second-floor window throughout the blaze, sources stated.

The dying fireman was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, the place he was pronounceddead, sources stated. 

An FDNY rep stated firefighters had been dispatched to the two-story house at 1:39 p.m., with greater than 100 Bravest working the scene because the blaze was elevated to a third-alarm shortly after 2 p.m.

The division didn’t instantly affirm the fatality.

A civilian who was injured was handled on the scene and refused additional medical consideration, the FDNY stated. 

The injured firefighters had been taken to Staten Island University Hospital after struggling burns, sources stated. 

The final metropolis firefighter to die within the line of responsibility was 33-year-old Jesse Gerhard in February.
